Consumers and Climate – How can AFIR deliver for EV Charging?

ChargeUp Europe is inviting you to a webinar on 18 November from 11:00 to 12:30 (CET) to discuss how the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) can deliver EV charging infrastructure across the EU in a way that works for consumers and unlocks the climate and environmental benefits of E-mobility.

Europe has made a clear commitment towards carbon-neutrality by 2050 and to achieve at least 55% emission’s reduction by 2030. But getting there will require an ambitious policy for zero-emission transport that harnesses the full potential of electromobility.

The revision of the alternative fuels infrastructure rules will play a critical role in this regard and will set the framework for deploying EV charging infrastructure in Europe.

Our event will bring together experts from different sectors to discuss the key opportunities and challenges of the upcoming EU legislation on EV charging infrastructure.

Agenda:

• Christopher Burghardt, ChargeUp Europe President - Introductory Speech
• Daniel Mes, Member of the Cabinet of European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans – Keynote Speech
• Aaron Fishbone, Director of Public Policy at GreenWay Infrastructure - Moderator

Panel 1: From highways to street corners: Getting the charging ambition right.

• Darko Levicar, Counsellor for Intermodal Transport - Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU
• Alexander Krug, Partner - Arthur D Little
• Fabian Sperka, Vehicles Policy Manager - Transport and Environment (T&E)
• Nancy Kabalt, Chair of Formula E-Team

Panel 2: From late adopters to smart consumers: Making it work for drivers today and in the future

• MEP Caroline Nagtegaal, Renew Europe Vice-Coordinator for European Parliament Transport Committee & Shadow rapporteur on the AFIR report
• Roland Ferwerda, Board Member - EVRoaming Foundation
• Koen Noyens, Director of EU Policy - EVBox (ChargeUp Europe’s Policy Chair)
• Dimitri Vergne, Team Leader Sustainability - BEUC

Paving the way towards consumer-oriented electromobility

As part of EU Sustainable Energy Week 2021 (EUSEW), ChargeUp Europe, ELIA group, and the International Energy Agency (IEA) will be hosting a virtual policy session on 12 October from 15:00 to 16:30 to discuss the potential of electric vehicle (EV) smart charging, and how to enable the promised benefits of eMobility. Accelerating the decarbonisation of road transport will require addressing the remaining barriers to the uptake of EVs, from a consumer and power-system perspective.

The event brings together experts from different sectors: the private sector (from charging infrastructure, to auto manufacturer, to grid operator), international organisations, alongside EU policymakers and civil society and research organisations.

Moderator:

• Araceli Fernandez Pales, Senior Energy Technology Analyst at International Energy Agency (IEA)

Our distinguished speakers:

• Maurizio Maggiore, Senior Expert, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission - Setting the scene on EU Policy
• Jacopo Tattini, Transport and Energy Analyst at International Energy Agency (IEA) – Presentation on System Integration and eMobility
• David Zenner, Head of Consumer Centricity, Elia - Vision from a TSO-perspective
• Robin Loos, Sustainable Transport Officer at BEUC - Vision from Consumer perspective
• Paul Smith, Product Marketing Manager, ChargePoint, on behalf of ChargeUp Europe - Vision from the EV Charging Infrastructure perspective
•Michael Keller, Head of Group Coordination Charging Infrastructure, Volkswagen - Vision from the vehicles manufacturers
